Shitajiki are thin sheets of plastic approximately 7 inches by 10 inches or B5 size. Students in Japan place them between pages of their notebooks to give them a smooth, hard surface on which to write. They help to prevent ink or impressions of the pen or pencil from marking the next page. They fit well in Marble or Composition Tablets used here in the U.S.

Many also collect them and use them for wall decorations.
